Sat September 19, 2026 6:00 am - 9:00 amAsia/Kolkata
Description
Water has a cyclical nature, which means that anything we put into our oceans & water bodies will come back to us sooner or later. For every mile of ocean, there are at least 46,000 pieces of plastic debris floating.
Globally till date, there is about 8.3 billion tons of plastic in the world : 6.3 billion tons of that is trash. 14 million tons of plastic end up in the oceans every year, and plastic makes up 80% of all marine debris found from surface waters to deep-sea sediments.
India produces 3.4 million tons of plastic waste in a year, only 30 per cent of it is recycled. 15,343 tons of waste dumped in the south Asian Seas daily are generated from 60 major Indian cities, according to UNEP posing a serious threat to our rich marine biodiversity.
Every year September 3rd saturday is considered as International Coastal Cleanup Day.For this year it is September 19.
In 2024, 140 tons of waste was removed. In 2025,187 tons of waste was removed.
International Coastal Cleanup Day is a promise to bring cleanliness and purity to oceans & nature as a whole.
Join us this year to make an even bigger impact for our oceans.
