When Giving Gets Your Hands Dirty: 

A Day of Solving a School’s Water Problem.

At hellogive.co we believe that self-growth and social good go hand in hand.

That is exactly what happened on September 5, 2026, when a group of people ranging in age from 14 to 52 years came together at a Government school in Kadichipalli, Tamil Nadu, for a very practical reason — to help restore the school’s water infrastructure.

A problem that had existed for 20 years

For two decades, something as basic as access to a functioning water supply had remained a challenge for the students and staff of the school.

The hellogive core team spent a few days, studying the existing water infrastructure, looked at the problems, brainstormed possible solutions and worked through what could realistically be implemented.

The core team then sent out an invite asking for participants interested to take part in the project.  We had a team of about 18 people, who turned up on Sep 5 to work on the project. We spent the day digging the earth, working on the water tank, laying and fixing water pipes, mounting the RO water purifier, making electrical connections and putting the entire system together.

A 14-year-old and someone in their 50s could be working alongside each other, learning from each other and contributing to the same goal.That day, we learnt about the practical and technical aspects of setting up a water-supply infrastructure.We learnt about pipes, tanks, water flow, filtration systems and electrical connections.

There was something wonderfully satisfying about the experience.Perhaps it was the physical work.Perhaps it was seeing the water infrastructure gradually take shape.Perhaps it was the conversations, laughter and teamwork that happened in between the work.Or perhaps it was simply knowing that the effort of one day could make everyday life a little easier for an entire school for years to come.Whatever it was, the experience reminded us that giving doesn’t have to feel like a sacrifice. And it can leave you feeling better than when you arrived.

The Kadichipalli school project was a reminder of why we started hellogive in the first place.

Self-growth meets social good when we use what we have — our time, our skills, our energy and our ideas — to make something better.

And we went home knowing that something we had worked on together could continue to serve a school long after our day was over.
